Our daughter Diana was diagnosed on April 24th, 2009 with a very rare type of brain tumor. After that, she had surgery done to remove the brain mass found – 3rd grade anaplastic ependymoma. She followed up with radiation therapy in the area that underwent surgery.
We had good news from her doctors after this treatment, and we tried to forget and have fun for the rest of the summer.
On December 18th, 2009 an MRI showed that Diana developed two tumors on the spinal cord. After the holidays she underwent a Laminectomy. After considering the possible side effects of a proposed follow-up radiation therapy to prevent the recurrence, we decided it will be too damaging and that we should explore alternative treatments, that are in clinical trials with FDA. After weeks of search, documentation and phone calls we found a program in Texas that would apply as a treatment, and we got accepted to participate in an FDA clinical trial for the Antineoplaston Therapy at the Burzynski Clinic in Houston, Texas.
We got through to the second part of the treatment and the progress is impressive. The last MRI shows no recurrence or metastatic signs and the genetic markers used for cancer detection are in the reference range, meaning that the treatment is most likely working. We’ll keep you updated.
Please feel free to contact us or donate to help us fight ependymoma recurrence. Thank you,
